Certifying to ISO 9001 Quality Management
ISO 9001 is the internationally recognised Quality Management Standard. Independent certification to this standard by UKAS accredited certification bodies provides clients with confidence that SOCOTEC has robust procedures and processes in place to effectively and reliably manage and deliver testing, inspection and consultancy services from enquiry to final reporting. ISO 9001 is also aimed at achieving client satisfaction by setting out what needs to be in place in order to consistently meet our clients’ requirements.
IFE Register of Fire Risk Assessors
In the UK, members and non-members of the IFE may apply to the IFE’s Fire Risk Assessors’ Register. All successful applicants must demonstrate to a Professional Review Panel that they have suitable education, training and experience in the principles of fire safety and fire risk assessment and this involves submitting examples of their work for evaluation.
In the UK, three legislative regimes impose a duty to carry out a fire risk assessment. In England and Wales, the duties are imposed on the Responsible Person who, in a workplace, is the employer and in premises that are not a workplace is the person having control of the premises. The duty can also be imposed on other persons having control of the premises, such as managing agents. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, the term ‘responsible person’ is not used but, again, the duty will fall on the employer and/or certain other persons having control of the premises.
If, as a result of a failure to properly carry out a fire risk assessment, an occupant of the building or someone in the immediate vicinity is put at risk of death or serious injury in case of fire, an offence is committed which can lead to a heavy fine or, in serious cases, imprisonment.
BM TRADA – Fire Door Maintenance
Demonstrate competence in the maintenance of fire doors.
There is a legal requirement for manufacturers of fire doors to demonstrate the ability of their products to resist the passage and spread of fire. However, if they are not properly maintained, their fire resistance capabilities can be seriously compromised. The BM TRADA Q-Mark Fire Door Maintenance scheme has been designed to provide reassurance to specifiers, contractors and end users that the product they have chosen has been maintained correctly and that it should perform as intended.
The Q-Mark Fire Door Maintenance scheme is based on training an individual who takes responsibility for the training and work carried out by a number of operatives. The scheme is designed to ensure that fire doorsets are being maintained correctly, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions or appropriate guidelines.
BM TRADA – Fire Door Installation

Launched in 1983 at the British Safety Awards Exhibition, The British Fire Consortium was established to provide customers easy access to expert fire safety training, consultation and equipment suppliers across the UK. At the same time improving the business interests and communications of all the members.
The comprehensive Code of Practice sets the minimum standards that Members and their customers can expect and is backed up by a robust but very fairly written Constitution. All correspondence including a News Update is carried out electronically except of course for Members meetings which are held twice a year at different locations so that over a period of time everyone has the opportunity (if they so wish) to attend, meet and debate issues with like minded people.
The Fire Protection Association (FPA) is the UK’s national fire safety organisation and is one of 28 similar national bodies worldwide. We work to identify and draw attention to the dangers of fire and the means by which the potential for loss is kept to a minimum.
